THERMOTAR: INNOVATION WITH R290 REFRIGERANT

Thermotar has developed HVAC solutions using natural refrigerants as part of our commitment to technological innovation and the continued evolution of the HVAC industry. R290, also known as propane, has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and an extremely low Global Warming Potential (GWP) compared with traditional HFC refrigerants.

The use of R290 requires specialized system design and proper refrigerant management. For this reason, our equipment is engineered around real-world operating conditions, required cooling capacity, airflow requirements, and the specific characteristics of each application.

This approach has enabled us to advance the development of central, commercial, and industrial air-conditioning solutions designed to reduce environmental impact without compromising performance, reliability, or energy efficiency.

PIONEERING THE DEVELOPMENT OF R290 TECHNOLOGY

Thermotar participated in a demonstration project focused on the use of R290 refrigerant as an alternative for manufacturing commercial air-conditioning equipment in Colombia. The initiative was supported by Colombia’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and implemented under the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol.

The project included the design and manufacturing of prototypes, the adaptation of production processes, safety assessments, and technical training. Extensive testing was also conducted to evaluate refrigerant behavior and establish appropriate risk-mitigation measures for commercial HVAC equipment.

As a result, Thermotar strengthened its engineering and manufacturing capabilities for the development of HVAC technology using natural refrigerants. This experience reinforces our commitment to delivering efficient, reliable, and environmentally responsible climate-control solutions designed to meet the evolving demands of the global HVAC market.
